Tension

英语的“tension”借自法语，而法语的“tension”又源自拉丁语动词“tendere”，意为“拉紧，抻长”（to stretch）。追踪溯源，他们的老祖宗都是原始印欧语（PIE）的词根“ *ten-”，意为“拉伸”（to stretch）。
英语里也有不少“tension”的同源词，例如： tend, tenet, tenor, tender, attend, extend, intent, intend, pretend.....etc., 都和“拉紧，抻长”有关啦。

“Tension”首先指物理上的“张力”，如：绷紧的绳子，英语和法语的“tension”都有这个意思, 可以互译。
Exemple:
Ne penses-tu pas qu’il faudrait diminuer la tension de la courroie?
Don’t you think we should reduce the tension of the belt?
你不觉得我们该把传送带调松一点吗？
英语和法语的“tension”也都可以用于比喻义，形容“局势，气氛”紧张。
Exemple:
1.Cet incident regrettable a considérablement exacerbé la tension entre les deux pays.
This regrettable incident considerably increased the tension between the two countries.
这件令人遗憾的事件加剧了两国间的紧张关系。
2.C’est à cette époque que remontent les premières tensions raciales en Australie.
The first racial tensions in Australia date back to that time.
澳大利亚的种族关系紧张最早就是在那时出现的。
法语的“tension”还可以指人心理上的“压力，”一般译为英语的“stress /strain”。
Exemple:
Quand on est, comme moi, sous tension toute la journée, on aime touver le calme à la maison.
If, like me, you’re under stress /strain all day, it’s nice to have some peace and quiet when you get home.
如果你象我一样，整天“鸭梨山大”，回家后，你肯定喜欢宁静。
“鸭梨太大”，会导致血压升高吧？法语的“tension”就有这个意思，一般要译为英语的“blood pressure”。
1.J’ai de la tension /trop de tension.
I have high blood pressure.
我有高血压。
2.Le docteur a pris ma tension et a constaté qu’elle était beaucoup trop basse.
The doctor took my blood-pressure and found it was much too low.
医生给我量了血压，结果发现太低了。(要多吃点大鱼大肉哦)
3.Ma tension redevient normale.
My blood-pressure returned to normal.
我的血压恢复正常了。
法语的“tension”还可以指“电压”(voltage)。
Exemple:
Une brusque chute de tension a mis l’appareil hors d’usage.
A sudden drop in voltage put the machine out of action.
电压突然下降，导致设备停机。
断了电,就没有电压了吧? 所以，给机器设备“加电，断电”用法语说就是“mettre sous tension”, “mettre hors tension”。
Exemple:
1.IMPORTANT : Lorsque la machine est mise hors tension, ne pas la remettre immédiatement sous tension.
IMPORTANT: After turning off the main powers witch, do not turn it on again immediately.
注意：关掉电源后，不要马上再开电源。（冰箱，空调都是这样吧？要等3分钟）
2.Ainsi, toutes les données non inscrites peuvent être stockées sur les disques durs et l'unité peut être mise hors tension en toute sécurité.
That way, any unwritten data can be stored to the hard disks and the unit can be safely powered down.
这样，任何未存储的信息存到硬盘上之后，就可以安全地关机了。
