Moment

英语和法语都有“moment”这个词。“A moment”（un moment）无非就是很短的一段时间吧？但“短”和“短”不一样啦。
如果你问一个英国人：“How long is a moment?” 他一般会回答说："A few seconds".“几秒钟”。

关于“moment”的经典定义是：从路口的信号灯变绿，到你后边的车开始按喇叭催你的时间。

（The classic definition is that a moment is the time from the traffic light turns green until the car behind you honks.）

小资料: 在中世纪，“moment”是个时间单位. 它的准确长度为1小时的1/40，也就是1分半，或“90秒” （A moment is actually a medieval unit of time equal to 1/40 hour or 1.5 minutes or 90 seconds.）
一般来说，英语的“moment”比法语的“moment”要短得多——只有几秒钟。经常译为法语的“instant”。
Le mot anglais “moment”, à la différence de son correspondant français, désigne un espace de temps très court, d’une duréé de quelques secondes. Il sera très souvent traduit par le mot français“instant''
例如：

Stop and think for a moment.

Réfléchissez un instant.

停下来想一想。

Just wait a second, I'll be there in a moment.

Attendez une seconde, j'arrive dans un instant.

等一下，我马上就到。

She kissed him; and from that moment on he knew she would someday be his wife.

Elle l'embrassa et à partir de cet instant, il sut qu'il l'épouserait un jour.

她吻了他。从这一刻起，他就知道了她早晚要成为他的妻子。

Even a moment's reflection will reveal that Dec. 21, 2012 won’t be the end of the world.

Même une brève réflexion révélerait que 21 december, 2012 ne serait pas la fin du monde.

随便(简单)想想就知道，2012年12月21日不会是世界末日。（不用深入思考啦~ ^v^）
英语的 "moment" 也可以指"目前, 当前"的一段时间:

I am not available at the moment. Please call back later.

Je ne suis pas libre pour l'instant. Veuillez me rappeler plus tard.

我现在正忙，请过一会儿再来电话好吗？

That is, in actual fact, our main concern at the moment.

Telle est notre principale préoccupation pour l'instant.

这就是目前我们主要关心的事情。

由于法语的“moment”比英语的“moment”要长的多，所以很多时候，法语的“moment”无法翻译成英语的“moment”。这时往往用“time, while”等表示较长时段的英语词。 例如：

Il a eu un moment difficile quand sa femme est morte.

He had a difficult time when his wife died.

他的妻子去世后，他度过了一段艰难的日子/他难过了很长时间。
不可译为：He had a difficult moment. (只难过了一会儿？太无情了吧？)

Je pense souvent aux moments agréables que nous avons passés emsemble.

I often think of the happy times we spent together.

我经常回想起我们一起度过的美好时光。

J’attendais déjà depuis un (bon) moment quand ma fille est arrivée. (=espace de temps ressenti comme long)

I had already been waiting for quite a while / quite a time / quite some time when my daughter arrived.

我等了好一会儿我女儿才到。

法语的“moment” 也可以指具体的"时段, 时间点", 常译为英语的"time".


C’est le moment de la journée où je suis le moins occupé. (=point précis dans le temps)

That’s the time of day when I’m least busy.

这是一天中我最空闲的时刻。

Sur le moment, j’ai été tellement surprise que je n’ai plus su quoi dire.

At the time I was so surprised that I didn’t know what to say.

当时，我惊愕得不知说什么好。
注意：英语固定短语中的“moment”一般不直接翻译成法语的时间词汇。 例如：

As our survey showed, the first moment of truth in the career path comes around the age of 30.

Comme le montre notre enquête, le tournant décisif dans la carrière se situe autour de la trentaine.

根据我们的调查，职业生涯的第一个重大转折点出现在30岁左右。

We decided to go to Las Vegas to get married on the spur of the moment.
Nous avons décidé de nous marier à Las Vegas sur un coup de tête.
我们头脑一热（一时兴起），就决定去拉斯维加斯结婚。（闪婚~~？ ^v^）
当然，“长”和“短”总是相对的，界限也是模糊的。所以，英语和法语的“moment”有时也可以互译。 例如：

Restez là, les enfants ! Je n’en ai que pour un moment. (Souvent : instant)

Stay there, children ! I’ll only be a moment / shan’t be a moment.

孩子们，待在那儿别动！ 我一会儿就完。

Il y eut un moment de silence, puis elle continua. (Souvent : instant)

There was a moment of silence, then she continued.

她沉默了片刻，接着又说了下去。

Auriez-vous quelques moments à me consacrer ?

Could you spare me a few moments?

您能给我一点时间吗？（打扰您一会儿行吗？）
