Like "être", "avoir" is an irregular verb whatever the tense is.

Here is the conjugation in the present:

avoir to be            
j'ai (=je ai) I have
tu as you have
il/elle  a he/she has
nous avons we have     
vous avez you have
ils/elles ont they have

Examples:

  • Il a une voiture.
    He has got a car.
  • J'ai une montre.
    I have got a watch.
