英法形近词对比：法语adepte和英语adept

Adepte

今天的 faux amis 与信仰有关啦。 
法语的 adepte 和英语的 adept 也是一对同源词，但意思完全不同。 

Adepte does not mean to be very good at something, which is “habile, excellent à faire quelque chose, savoir faire quelque chose”, but to be somebody’s follower, or a firm believer in a particular religion or political creed. 
法语的 adepte 是名词（n.m），意思是某人，某教派或政治理念的“信徒，追随者”。而英语的 adept 则是形容词，意为“熟练，灵巧，擅长（做某事）”，翻成法语要用“habile, excellent à faire/savoir faire quelque chose”. 

例如： 

De nos jours, les sectes font de nombreux adeptes parmi les jeunes. 
Today, the sects have many followers among the young. 
今天，教派（邪教）组织在年轻人中间有很多信徒。 

Le public était composé presque exlusivement d’adeptes convaincus de Billy Graham. 
The audience was made up almost exlusively of staunch followers of Billy Graham. 
听众几乎都是Billy Graham的狂热信徒。 
（Billy Graham：美国有名的TV Evangelist, 在电视上宣传基督教福音。） 

Les adeptes du tennis ne rateraient Wimbledon pour rien au monde. 
Tennis fans/enthusiasts wouldn’t miss Wimbledon for the world. 
网球迷们为了能看温伯尔顿比赛可以不惜一切。 

C’est un adepte des romans policier. 
She’s a fan/a devotee/an avid reader of detective novels. 
她是个侦探小说迷。 

除了“信徒，追随者”的意思之外，adepte 有时还可以是“大师，专家，精神领袖” maître （spirituel）的意思。（要当心：其中也有骗子啦。^v^） 

再看英语的 adept, 很单纯啦，是“熟练，灵巧，擅长（做某事）”的意思： 

He was (an) adept at untangling the most inextricable situations. 
Il avait le don de dénouer les situations les plus inextricables. 
应付复杂局面，他很有一套。 

Mary is adept in/at the art of conversation. 
Marie est experte dans l’art de la conversation. 
玛丽擅长聊天。
